WASHINGTON: US stocks opened lower in the first day of trade after the Christmas holiday, amid mixed signs on holiday retail sales.
After a strong finish last week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 19.60 points (0.16 per cent) at 12,274.40 in the first 10 minutes of trade.
The broader S&P 500 slipped 2.96 (0.23 per cent) to 1,262.37, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 7.82 points (0.30 per cent) to 2,610.82.
